The final style we’re showcasing for weddings in 2013 is an eco look with a very stylish feel. What it’s not: the color green, mountain climbing, composting and tree hugging. What it is: Natural texture with class. The hallmark of this popular look is a woodsy feel, but it’s a very refined woodsy feel. Elements from nature, such as wood, stone, and textured plants define this style and bring sophistication to our love for all things natural. Imagine a picnic—with chandeliers—and you’ve captured the look.
As wedding stylists, we’re interpreting this trend with the rich textures of more exotic-type plants like succulents, artichokes, equisetum, cockscomb, evergreens and moss. We also use intriguing foliage, pods, wild vines and various grains (such as wheat and millet), which create a “Field & Forest” motif. Florals that are ideal for this look include amaranthus, pincushion protea, English garden roses, crespedia (billy balls), cymbidium orchids, hypericum berries, and limonium.
Vincenzo Butera describes Eco-Chic as a social movement that has grown into a personal expression: “This style reflects our society’s reverence of the ecostructure, but it’s not about sustainability. We still care about the environment, but this trend is more about brides wanting the look of nature and celebrating the greatest event of their lives surrounded by the calm beauty of nature. This look is one that suits the personality and style of many brides, and it’s one that brings natural splendor to the scene in a way that sets guests at ease.”
We’re not talking about the green movement here (spoiler alert: that’s next week). We’re also not discussing the “Shades of Grey” book. (Not. Discussing.) No, we’re talking beautiful color, lots of it, in vibrant shades of green. We expected that, since it’s official: the 2013 Color of the Year is emerald. But there’s also mint green, jade, citrusy green, and more.
We’ll see more green making inroads into gowns, accessories, bouts, bowties and suspenders, gems, heels, and eye makeup. Trick dianthuses and green hypericum are some of the stars in this palette; even hotter are the coveted “Rive Gouche” and “Green Eye” roses, with their pop of green at the center. Orchids and succulents are also fantastic with this look.
As for color combinations, pair green with peach or yellow. For a stunning look, try black and white—or just plain white with your favorite shade of green. Some of this year’s other wedding trends, like jewel tones and metallics, work well with this style. What we’re also predicting this season—and what we’re intrigued by—is a blue influence in this palette, heading toward aqua. Still, what’s hottest is that individuality reigns, so expect to see a variety of interpretations of Shades of Green.
Vincenzo Butera AAF, AIFD, PFCI, creative conductor of Butera The Florist notes, “Green is naturally going to be integrated into florals. But what I’m excited about is using fresh hues and This page rates the top-25 online casino s that offer Caribbean Stud Poker. textures of green as well as new florals that offset the white and other colors brides are going to be using this year. Toward the end of the year, I’m expecting aqua to emerge as a favorite. Aqua brings a rich but cool, more subtle feel to the wedding landscape. That said, green is timeless.”

Elegance is always in style. In 2013, our Look No. 5 is Classic Elegance. What it amounts to is actually a rebirth of that romantic, feminine look that has served many brides well over the years. But this take is new, and as wedding specialists, we reinterpret this revived designer trend with a more tailored yet still dreamy look.
This year’s star is the waterfall bouquet. You’ll still see hand-tied bouquets, but that trend is waning. Representing a resurgence of the waterfall bouquets that were so popular in the 1980s, today’s versions of this style are classier. Overall, the Classic Elegance look is achieved with candles and a delicate, muted palette of creams or greys with black notes, often accented with one luxuriously deep color. Champagne or white roses, pink peonies, green dendrobium orchids, and richly hued callas are naturals for this sophisticated look.
Vincenzo notes, “What we create with florals is the feeling the bride wants to evoke during her wedding. In reinterpreting the waterfall bouquet and other elegant florals for today’s brides, we combine shape, texture and scent that convey that very mood—that sophisticated romantic feel—to her guests.”
